WHAT IS THE STAGE ONE THEATRE GROUP?
It is an ambitious Amateur Dramatic Group based in Paphos, Cyprus. A small
theatre in Emba is home for a group with high aims of professional standards of
excellence.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
It is a group of primarily ex-pats who get together, perform in public,
usually 4 times a year and generally have a good time doing it. With a
steadily growing membership (over 200) this group has a reputation in Cyprus
for its quality and range of productions including comedy, drama, musical
and pantomime. Aside from the more serious aspects of public performance,
there is a lively active social club much enjoyed by all members.
HOW DID IT GET HERE?
The original group was started in 1985 by a lady called Freda Worsnop and
their first performance was in someone's garden! They also performed in an
art gallery, with a caravan outside for changing, and in a school gymnasium.
The current venue, Emba Theatre, was acquired in 1987 and the group became
'Stage One'. The first production at Emba Theatre was 'Gaslight' using
borrowed lighting. Stage One has come a long way since those days, with
excellent lighting and sound consoles, the floor carpeted, the seating
re-upholstered and the theatre now able to seat an audience of 230.
WHAT CAN THEY DO FOR YOU or WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR THEM?
If you have not been to a performance you may just be surprised by the
variety and high standard of entertainment offered by the group. If
you would like to join - you don't actually have to perform on stage,
we need people who can stick bits of wood together, hammer nails in, sew,
paint, prompt, direct, produce, do lighting, sound, clean, you name it we
need it - please email the
